Ayurvedian Natural Fertility Management
‘Ayurveda’ is one of the oldest life sciences with a strong emphasis on fertility, pregnancy and postnatal care. In fact, Ayurveda focuses more on the the pre-conception care which naturally leads to a healthy pregnancy and birth. Ayurvedic pre-conception care is based on our body’s natural ability to cleanse and renew. No matter what your past experiences with fertility have been, Ayurveda offers a complete new approach to fertility that embraces both the male and the female roles as equally important.

Fertility Management Services
Ayurveda teaches us that fertility is far more than the physical act of becoming pregnant. Fertility is first about your shift into parenthood mindset, as a couple, which starts well before conception. It begins with your first true desire to start a family. This intense desire serves as an invitation to the new soul (or a parcel of cosmic energy) to come and ignite new life in your heart and body.
We encourage the couple to embrace this spirituality and to live and breathe that desire in addition to physical union. Our goal is to help you create and nourish your baby in a multi-dimensional well being to help that new soul – your baby fulfill its purpose to the highest degree of health and happiness. Our approach is one of common sense, focusing on optimal health for the two of you before conception occurs to maximise your chances of a healthy conception, pregnancy, birth and baby.
Our program begins with an overview of the anatomy of fertility—the essential elements that must operate well for conception to occur—and then, with this understanding, takes you through the phases of preconception preparation, step-by-step.
Four Essential Elements of Fertility/Conception: Garbha Sambhava Samagri:
In one of its most famous teaching analogies, Ayurveda compares human conception to the germination and sprouting of a seed and its transformation into a sapling. When the male and female seeds unite and the soul ignites life into the union, an embryo (garbha) is created. Ayurveda gives great importance to the quality of the seed (egg and sperm). In addition to the female seed, the mother also provides the ‘soil’i.e. the womb, nutrition and the right ‘season’ for the seed to grow.
Thus for a successful conception, the following four essential components must be in harmony:
Literally speaking Ambu means water supply which really means healthy placenta and umbilical cord flow of blood (Rakta) and nutrients (Rasa) to the baby. We can expand the definition of Ambu to encompass the nutrients that nourish the parents as well. These include good food rich in macro and micronutrients, clean water, their production of hormones. The end point of all the good things getting to the tissues results in what is called Ojas which means the very essence of life and vitality. So the better the Ambu the better will be the Ojas.
Fertile land/field, in terms of disease free and healthy womb (uterus) is called the Kshetra. The Field, like the timing or Rutu , can be interpreted to represent a healthy environment, healthy bodies as well as the uterus itself. The wider your improvement of your Field the better the outcome.
The ideal season/timing for conception in terms of fertile period in a woman is called the Rutu. Most couples focus on this one factor more than any other. It begins with the most basic question—“Are we ready?”—and continues as you follow the female’s menstrual cycle to determine when ovulation occurs. Interestingly human beings too are naturally more fertile in springtime as are many other animals. It is just as equally important to choose a period of minimal stress for you e.g work arrangements, finances, availability of help etc and this means the Rutu has to be suited to your circumstances.
Beej (Seed) refers to both the egg and the sperm. According to Ayurvedic embryology, reproductive tissues are one of the last ones to be formed. Beej is said to be the most refined, most complete tissue after we digest and process all the food, thoughts, and emotions that we ingest. As such, its perfection requires the best of the best – the best food, the best thoughts, the best environment. This is vital for men as sperm is produced and matured in a 2.5 monthly cycle and is heavily influenced by the environment whereas eggs are formed during a woman’s development in her mother’s womb.
The Ayurvedian conception care program focuses on nutrition, detoxification, lifestyle changes, stress management, natural medicine, Yoga and Meditation to improve general health, address any pre-existing conditions and help the four essential components to work together optimally.
At the Ayurvedian clinic we provide an integrated approach including referrals to both medical specialists and additional alternative health services as may be required for individual or couple health. These may include remedial massage, acupuncture ad physical therapies.
Ayurvedian Preconception Program involves:
At Ayurvedian, we develop personalised mental, physical and spiritual detox programs according to the specific health conditions and needs of the couples. These include Panchkarma therapies, massage, bowel cleanse, Yoga and herbal medications on prescription.
The intention of rejuvenation is ultimately to build Ojas (the essence of vitality and immunity). After the detox program we will focus on Emotional, Spiritual and Physical rejuvenation .
Emotional rejuvenation program focuses on reviving the relationship between the couples through strong and powerful emotions of joy, love and abundance.
Dr. Tewari, who is an Author of the Ayurvedic textbook on obstetrics and gynecology writes, “Normalcy of psychology or happiness of couple is most important for conception.”
Emotional rejuvenation focuses on practising an intense amount of self-love. For example doing your favorite hobby, because such things build Ojas. It also incorporates practice of daily affirmation, prayers, maintaining a diary and reflection.
Physical rejuvenation includes: diet, herbal supplements and positive lifestyle modifications.
For example; your Ayurvedic practitioner may advise you to use ‘Ashwagandha Bala Oil’ for your self-oil massage (abhyanga) to bring strength to the body and all tissues.
Advice would be given on herbal supplements that will nourish the reproductive tract. ‘Ayurvedian Women’s Cycle Nourish’ is a blend of herbs that specifically nourishes the female reproductive tract, and likewise, Men’s Support targets the male reproductive tract. Alternatively, your practitioner may advise women to take other herbal supplements like Ashwagandha and Shatavari and men may be advised to take Ashwagandha and Kapikacchu (both mixed with a half teaspoon each of ghee and honey. Yoga and Pranayam will be advised too as a part of the detox and rejuvenation program.
Timing is the most important factor in falling pregnant. Be patient, do your best not to become frustrated keeping in mind the impact of stress and anxiety on your fertility.
There are numerous kits, phone apps and devices out there to help you identify when ovulation occurs. However, we have a trained teacher in fertility management who would guide you to monitor your fertility and help you understand your fertile cycles. There will be a dedicated appointment to educate you on how to monitor your fertility and charting and you will be provided with a workbook to keep track of your cycles and fertile periods.

Increase your chances of success with IVF
Comprehensive initial face-to-face consultations are held to complete a full health assessment and devise a tailored program that aims to optimise health and fertility through:
- lifestyle modifications
- improved diet and nutrition
- diagnostic tests and protocols
- natural treatments and medicines
- non-invasive medical tests and treatments
- counselling and relaxation therapy
- charting and timing techniques
Regular check-ups (every 4-6 weeks) are then undertaken to monitor progress and revise therapies. These consultations can be conducted by phone for patients living outside Melbourne.
As a part of the Conception Program you will also receive a Conception Kit that guides you through the initial stages and between consultations. It contains copies of a workbook including instructions, charts, diet guidelines and recommendations and fertility thermometer.
Preconception health care can only be of benefit if sufficient time is given for it to be effective in restoring nutritional status, removing toxins and improving reproductive health before conception takes place. In most cases, four months is a minimum period of preparation.
Infertility & IVF Support
At Ayurvedian our Conception Program is also tailored to support prospective parents with a wide variety of reproductive issues.
Commonly seen cases are where there is unexplained infertility i.e. there is no diagnosed medical health issue. Unexplained infertility causes may include a combination of various nutritional deficiencies, toxic exposures, lifestyle, diet and other sub clinical health issues in both partners.
These cases can be resolved through the Ayurvedian Conception Program which may utilise a combination of Ayurvedic and orthodox tests and therapies to fully understand and address these issues.
Additionally; Ayurvedic therapies are extremely effective in treating most female and male reproductive health issues which may compromise fertility. Ayurvedic treatments are useful in hormonal imbalance, irregular cycles, endometriosis, fibroids, PCOS, previous health concerns with pregnancy or baby, recurrent miscarriage, thyroid or immune systems problems and problems with sperm count, motility, morphology (shape) or DNA integrity.
The most frequently asked question:
Can I do IVF and use natural fertility treatments at the same time?
We recommend our Ayurvedian Conception Program as your first option instead of keeping it as the last option. There are following benefits to use natural fertility management as a supportive measure in IVF.
- your chances with assisted reproductive technology procedures can be significantly improved
- IVF may not be required after all since fertility problems are often overcome or improved
- for older couples, the time spent in the short term by boosting your health can be worth it in the long term because the chances of the first attempt being successful are higher when natural preconception health care is practised
- the risks associated with assisted reproductive programs such as miscarriage, poor foetal or infant health or perinatal death etc can be reduced with the help of preconception health care
The IVF Support Program
Some patients, however, will experience fertility problems (such as severely blocked tubes), that do not respond to natural therapies . In such cases, your Ayurvedic practitioner can support you prior to and during IVF or any other assisted reproductive procedures with a focused and comprehensive care program. Ayurvedian IVF Support program is undertaken with a view to improving your overall health, increasing the possibility of success and decreasing the health risks involved.
It is extremely important and beneficial for couples to prepare their bodies for the IVF treatment, which is necessary if, for example, both tubes are removed or completely blocked or in case of a very low sperm count. Ayurveda remarkably helps a successful & healthy IVF/ IUI pregnancy and prevents a miscarriage. We offer support through natural solutions. The duration of treatment varies from person to person.
Our conception program assists a successful & healthy IVF pregnancy and prevents miscarriage with a Fertility Cleanse and hormonal support through herbs for the endocrine system. Hence, the three steps at Ayurvedian Clinic involves (a) Herbal remedies (b) Cleansing and detoxification to remove blockages and (c) Rejuvenation, renewal and strengthening of the reproductive system.
The Ayurvedian Pregnancy Care Program: (“Garbha Sanskar”)
If you are already pregnant or have just achieved success on our Conception Program, Ayurvedic Practitioners are trained to assist you through your pregnancy and beyond.
The ‘Ayurvedian Garbha Sanskar/ Pregnancy care program’ is tailored specifically to the needs of each trimester of your pregnancy and aim to achieve optimal health for the mother and the developing foetus.
Pregnancy is a happy and joyous time of life for most of the women. It can also be a challenging time of life as a mother’s body goes through numerous changes in order to create and support the development of a new life. Ayurveda is an excellent addition to the care provided by medical doctors and midwives. Ayurveda creates support for the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual bodies of the mother and her baby.
Our pregnancy care consultations focus on diet and lifestyle, specific nutritional supplements, antenatal yoga and meditation.
Our practitioners can also give various suggestions and treatments for common pregnancy-related issues such as nausea, anxiety, mood swings, constipation, cramps, backache, fluid retention, haemorrhoids, heartburn and we may also advise specialised treatments for those with a history of recurrent miscarriages.
Embrace the Process
The period of preconception and pregnancy is always loaded with dreams, expectations and ideals of how things ought to be. Some of us think too much about it. We often advise couples to understand that this is a natural process. Even with a plan such as the one recommended by our program, allow for spontaneity and let the process unfold naturally.
Our goal of the ‘Preconception, Pregnancy and Beyond Program’ is to make you feel empowered as a couple—emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Ayurveda has remarkable tools that can help assist you in completing your family.
